The beginning...
Established in December 1988 EXTELCOM was soon granted a provisional authority to install, operate and maintain a Cellular Mobile Telephone System (CMTS) in Metro Manila by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
Switches and cellsites...
In May 1989, limited operations commenced with the installation of EXTELCOM'S first switch in Antipolo and three cell sites in Metro Manila. Despite the limited coverage the company offered the latest in advanced cellular technology with such service features as Call Forwarding, No Answer Transfer Call Waiting, and Three-way Call Conference. As these innovations became more accessible to the consumer EXTELCOM began its aggressive campaign to provide the best alternative telecommunications technology to the Filipino public.
CPCN...
In October 1992, EXTELCOM was granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) by the NTC. To date Extelcom is the only CMTS operator in the Philippines with a CPCN.
Leading the way...
Extelcom led the way in innovation by introducing the first cellular prepaid card in the country: "Cellcard". This innovation broadened the use of cellular phones since subscribers can now avail of cellular service without the need for documents to justify credit standing. It also offers convenience to the subscribers since all he needs to do is to purchase prepaid cards in numerous outlets order to use his phone without the hassle of monthly statements.
New image...
After the new management was appointed, the company launched a new image and logo with the "Express Telecom" trademark to signify the transition into a new strategic direction of the company. "Express" (as in "expression") and the logo shape that mimics a comic-strip speech balloon capture the essence of its business that is in communication. Chartreuse (apple green) was chosen as the logo's dominant color because it has a very modern, casual and approachable character. The deep Caspian blue border communicates reliability and trustworthiness. The new "Express" brand captures a more youthful, dynamic and energetic nature of the company. The use of an unconventional logo alludes to the company's revolutionary approach to cellular phone services.
Unlimited calls...
The company was the first ever to launch the unlimited service under the new brand: "Express Unlimited". Express Unlimited offers a subscriber the opportunity to talk endlessly within Express Telecom network for thirty (30) days. Airtime between Express phone users is absolutely free for a low fixed monthly fee. Only normal toll charges are charged to calls outside of Express Telecom.
